The new 2013 Beetle has something that was lost a few years back, a diesel fueled engine. It has a relaxed character and a relatively narrow rev range. The 2013 TDI Beetle will be out later this summer and will come complete with a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine that makes an impressive 140 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. It will be connected to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed DSG (dual-clutch) automated manual gearbox. This engine offers a great performance while still being incredibly economical. The TDI allows you to drive hard like a gasoline engine and offers a strong kick of torque. EPA ratings for the latest Beetle TDI ring in at 29 mpg city, 39 highway.

On the outside noticeable updates include unique 17-inch wheels, additional exterior chrome accents, and a TDI badge. The Beetle is retro while still holding a modern feel to it. The flatter roofline and sportier design are inspired by the 2005 Ragster Concept. The previously very round and cute edges are now squarer and compliment the fascias.  The fender stays exaggerated but the headlights and taillights are sharper and there are additions of chrome accents along the side of the car to keep it from looking too “girly”.

Inside the unique instrumental panel, gauge pod, and overall design have become more stylish and conventional. The gauge cluster now has three separate gauges and a central speedometer. The steering wheel was also changed to be sportier with a flat-bottom and painted inserts. There also colored inserts on the instrument panel and door panel. VW Beetle Tucson drivers will appreciate the larger size of the new Beetle. The size translates into more interior space, with an increase of 1.2 inches front headroom. There is also an increase of 15.4 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up and 29.9 cubic feet with the seats down.

The basic 2013 Volkswagen Beetle TDI comes standard with power windows, cruise control, Bluetooth phone connectivity and audio streaming, an eight-speaker audio system and keyless push-button start. The next highest trim level adds a large power sliding panoramic roof and insulated glass that blocks 92 percent of heat out from the cabin. The highest trim levels include sunroof, sound and navigation upgrade, VW’s touch-screen, and a premium Fender audio system.
